FIRST Lego League meeting set for Aug. 26

‘City Shaper’ is the theme for project this year

Webster City Middle School will be hosting the FIRST Lego League for fifth and sixth grade students with “City Shaper” being the theme of this year’s project.

Students will work to build and code a robot in addition to designing a project that ties into the theme.

This year there will be two teams — a fifth grade and a sixth grade team. Team coaches will be Erica Miller, Lauren Blaisdell, Cathy Dingman and Megan Kostka-Dietz.

There will be a mandatory parent meeting on Monday, Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the WC Middle School Media Center. A parent or guardian must attend in order for a student to participate in the program. Topics will include a brief description of the league and the projects students will be working on this year.

The teams will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the WCMS Media Center and attendance is mandatory. Practices will begin on Thursday, Aug. 29 with the regional competition scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7.

Students must be committed to attend each meeting in order for the team to be successful.

Northeast Hamilton students who are interested in participating may ride the bus from NEH to Webster City after school. Parents will be responsible for picking up their student from the middle school at 5:30 p.m.
