Stanhope woman dies after getting exiting a moving vehicle

LEHIGH — A Stanhope woman is dead after investigators say she got out of a moving vehicle early Friday morning.

She was identified Monday as Margaret F. Garcia, of Stanhope, by the Webster County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Jim Stubbs said deputies were alerted to the incident at 1:28 a.m. Friday after receiving a call from the emergency department at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Deputies learned that the incident happened on Samson Avenue, just north of Lehigh. Garcia received serious injuries when she got out of the moving vehicle.

Her husband, Randy S. Garcia, was driving the unidentified vehicle at the time, according to Stubbs.

Despite the efforts of rescuers, Margaret Garcia later died from her injuries.

Stubbs said the investigation into what happened is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.

The Iowa State Patrol and Fort Dodge Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Stubbs asked that anyone with information contact the Webster County Sheriff’s Department at 573-1410 or Webster County Crime Stoppers at 573-1444. Tips can also be sent online at wccrimestoppers.com or by texting “LEC” and the tip to 274637.
