Free event designed to let residents spruce up properties

Volunteers help unload items at the 2018 Clean-Up Drop-Off Day. This year, Webster City residents can bring junk and unwanted items to the middle school parking lot Friday afternoon and Saturday morning

Webster City residents will have a chance to clear out some junk and unwanted items this weekend as the annual Clean-Up Drop-Off event is held Friday and Saturday at the Webster City Middle School parking lot.

The hours of operation are Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers said volunteers that can help either day would be appreciated.

City officials said the purpose of the clean up effort is to allow residents to dispose of items that cannot be placed in the regular garbage or be recycled. The event is a great time to get rid of junk and spruce up property. There is no fee to drop off items.

Items that will be accepted include:

• Household furniture

• grills/lawn furniture

• Scrap metal items

• Exercise equipment/bicycles

• Appliances

• Microwaves

• Mattresses/box springs

• Carpet pieces

• Computer towers

• Box fans/ceiling fans

• Miscellaneous household items

Items that will not be accepted include:

• Propane tanks/cylinders

• Tires

• Large quantities of building materials

• Nothing with liquids inside such as paint cans, oil cans, etc.

• Hazardous materials

• Computer monitors/keyboards

• Televisions

• Batteries

• Concrete, bricks or rocks

• Roofing materials

• Yard waste

No regular household garbage will be allowed.

Organizers said the event is strictly for Webster City residents and the city reserves the right to refuse acceptance of any item.
