Patty Thompson and Erin Henderson, teachers at St. Thomas School, accept a $1,500 check from Hy-Vee Store Director Kevin Barry for the Friends of St. Thomas Ball this weekend. Hy-Vee is one of the ball sponsors.

Local residents will have a chance to preview the  2019 Friends of St. Thomas Ball Friday night.

The preview, which is open to the public, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Those attending will have a chance to view auction items, check out the decorations and enjoy refreshments.

The Friends of St. Thomas Ball returns Saturday, May 4, from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. with a variety of auction items, new games and entertainment. Organizers have been busy planning the annual event, which serves as St. Thomas Aquinas School’s main fundraiser for the year. This year’s theme is “Casino Royale.”

The evening will include a social hour, live and silent auctions, games of chance, food and beverages, music and dancing.

An online auction is featured again this year. To view items in the online auction or to place a bid, visit the website, stthomas2019.ggo.bid. The auction features a wide variety of merchandise, including gift certificates for area restaurants, massage therapy and spa treatments, Iowa/Iowa State items, fitness packages, as well as items created by the classes at St. Thomas Aquinas School. Bidders can also choose to purchase special treats for classes and can even purchase a ride to school with the sheriff or in a firetruck or with the police chief. One lucky bidder will have a chance to be a Principal for a Day.

Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the evening for the grand prize — a $10,000 cash prize. Second prize is $2,000 and third prize is $1,000 in gift cards. Raffle tickets are $50 each or three for $125.

Music will be provided for dancing later in the evening.

Organizers said tickets can be purchased at www.stthomasball.com.Tickets are $50 each and includes two complimentary drink tickets, dinner and dessert and entertainment. Ball and raffle tickets are also available at the school, 624 Dubuque St.
