Streets to close for Junquefest

The Webster City Council on Monday approved closing parts of some downtown streets for the annual JunqueFest sale of antique, vintage and salvage items.

The council voted unanimously to close these streets from 2 p.m. May 23 to 5 p.m. May 26:

* Second Street between Prospect and Seneca streets

* Des Moines Street from the alley to First Street

* Willson Avenue between the alley and First Street

Denise Smith, the membership director of the Webster City Chamber of Commerce, told the council that 46 vendors have committed to being at the event, and more are expected.

In other business, the council purchased a new aerial bucket truck for the municipal electric utility for $202,244. It will replace a 2009 model now in use.
