Seminar to look at safety awareness, personal protection

‘Not Me, Not Today’ to be offered Dec. 22

A personal safety seminar will be held Saturday, Dec. 22 at the Hamilton County Courthouse.

“Not Me, Not Today,” produced and presented by Hamilton County Deputy Sheriff Rod Hicok, in cooperation with the Hamilton County Peace Officers Association, will be offered at 1 p.m.

Hicok said he had presented the seminar previously on two occasions and both were well-attended. He said he was asked to present the session during the Christmas break time frame so that college students could attend.

The course will include instruction on safety awareness and personal protection in everyday situations with an emphasis on:

• Avenues of escape

• Staying out of confrontations

• Recognizing and reporting suspicious activity

• Situational awareness.

Women and men of all ages are invited to attend, with an emphasis on high school and college students and adults. Hicok said the seminar will help all ages avid dangerous situations including the elderly and handicapped.

“Real life situations will be addressed,” he said. “The course has been designed to keep you safe and is for instruction and teaching.”

No sales of items or services will be offered at the event.

The seminar is sponsored by several area businesses, including Hy-Vee, Tony’s Tire Service, Gary Chamness Technologies, First State Bank/Town and Country Insurance, Availa Bank, People’s Credit Union and WCF Financial Bank.
