Christmas at the Bridge is Saturday

Free family event to be hosted by local church

A Webster City church is once again offering local residents the opportunity to choose a gift for someone on their Christmas list, have the gift wrapped in festive paper and create card — all free of charge.

It’s Christmas at the Bridge, sponsored by the Webster City Church of Christ. The annual event gives community members a chance to experience the joy of giving to others, organizers said.

The event is a free family activity where adults and children can pick out a special present for their brother, sister, Mom or Grandma. With budgets that are often tight during the holiday season, Christmas at the Bridge is a way that families can add one more gift under the tree.

Organizers said The Bridge, located at 900 Des Moines St., will be filled with tables full of toys, books, clothing, treats, tools, candles, gift cards, baskets, stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons — all sorts of gifts. Shoppers can browse the gift tables while listening to Christmas music and enjoying a holiday treat. Once a gift is selected, participants can create a Christmas card to go along with the gift, which volunteers will wrap for them.

No reservations or registration is needed to attend. The event is open to all area families, according to organizers.

Gifts are still needed for the event, organizers said. Local residents can help by donating new gifts or gift cards, valued at $5 to $10. Wrapping paper and Scotch tape are also needed. Monetary donations are also welcomed. Donations can also be mailed or dropped off to: Attn: Christmas At The Bridge; Webster City Church of Christ; 900 Des Moines St., Webster City, IA 50595.

Last year, more than 500 people took part in Christmas at the Bridge, the largest turnout ever, according to organizers.
