A new bilingual story time is starting Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Kendall Young Library.

The “Cuentos Bilingues” will be held at 2 p.m. in the lower level of the library, according to Ketta Lubberstedt-Arjes, library director.

“This time, it’s going to have a holiday theme,” she said. “But we hope to offer this on a Saturday every other month going forward.”

This program Saturday is open to both all children, both English and Spanish speaking children.

“Everyone is welcome to attend,” she said. The books to read include “Cookie Count,” “What Could Be,” and “Keeping Santa.”

Also on Saturday, children attending will also have an opportunity to decorate Christmas cookies.

Lubberstedt-Arjes said the library had accumulated many Spanish language books for all ages.

In the children’s department, she said they’ve added many Spanish languages editions of popular titles.

“The little ones want books to read,” she said. “And they want to read the same books that all of their friends — Wonder and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and others,” she said.

Other Christmas events

The library has several activities planned for the upcoming holiday season for families, adults and children.

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, the DIY Club will meet in the lower level meeting room of the library at 6 p.m. This month, the group will be making Christmas ornaments. The group is open to all adults, Lubberstedt-Arjes said.

Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to help decorate the children’s department Christmas tree on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 3:45 to 5 p.m.

A Polar Express Family Fun Night will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, beginning at 6 p.m.

“This should be a really fun night. Wear your pajamas, we’ll have popcorn and hot chocolate and we’ll watch ‘Polar Express,'” Lubberstedt-Arjes said.

“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” (PG13) will be shown Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. in the library meeting room. Popcorn and beverages will be provided.

Capping off the holiday season will be a present wrapping party scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20. from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

“This is a great time to wrap presents, away from prying eyes,” she said. “We’ll have wrapping paper, scissors, tape, bows and gift tags.”

She said participants can wrap up to 5 gifts and there will be holiday music, cookies and hot chocolate served.
