Fundraiser planned for WC church

Proceeds from chicken dinner to go towards remodeling of Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal

Juanita Garcia sits in the current sanctuarys of the Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal church in Webster City. The church is holding a fundraiser on April 22 to help raise money for remodeling of the space.

A Webster City church is hoping to raise funds for the remodeling of its sanctuary with a chicken dinner later this month.

Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal, located in the large building at the corner of Seneca and Division Streets, will hold the chicken dinner Sunday, April 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Webster City Middle School. The menu will include oven baked chicken, mashed potatoes, dinner roll, a drink and dessert for a $10 donation.

Juanita Garcia, church treasurer, said the dinner is open to all.

The building was formerly the home of Hamilton County Public Health. The church, led by Pastors Efrain and Elizabeth Magdaleno, moved into the building when Public Health relocated to James Street.

Garcia said at first, worship services were held in a small room on the east side of the building. But with a growing congregation, the space soon became too small. The room is now used for Sunday School classes and Chapel.

The sanctuary was moved to a another area but with no insulation and concrete floors, the space proved to be very cold during the winter months, Garcia said.

“It’s really cold in here,” she said. “We have a furnace, but it’s not enough.”

Between 80 and 100 attend worship at the church, Garcia said.

She said the church eventually hopes to use a larger room for services, but that will require some major remodeling and the addition of insulation and heating equipment to make the room suitable for worship throughout the year.

“Right now, it’s just a box. We have to do everything in here,” she said, adding they hope to add new chairs, pews and furniture to the space.

The building also features a kitchen and a finished dining room.

Services are held at the church Sunday from 12 to 2 p.m. with Sunday School preceding the worship from 10 a.m. to noon. Worship is also held Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Garcia said other churches in the community have been very generous and supportive.

She added that anyone wishing to make a donation to help with remodeling can contact her at (515) 571-8060.
