Mouth-watering brownies. Chocolate cupcakes. Mexican Hot Chocolate cookies. These are just a few of the entries area residents will be able to sample at the annual Kendall Young Library Festival of Chocolate.

With the event fast approaching, more chocolate entries are still needed, according to Kendall Young Library Interim Director Ketta Lubberstedt-Arjes. The deadline for chocolate entries has been extended until Monday, Jan. 22.

Participants can enter one or more recipes in four categories of chocolate: Bars, cakes, candy, and cookies. Individuals who enter items at the festival must provide six dozen one-inch pieces of their submitted dessert. All levels of baking expertise are welcome to participate.

“It can be as simple as scotcheroos to cheesecakes and other assorted bars,” said Lubberstedt-Arjes.

“The more varieties and entries, the better the Festival of Chocolate will be,” Lubberstedt-Arjes said. “It’s just nice to have a good variety.”

The event, which is Sunday, Jan. 28 from 2-4 p.m., is a great way to spend a cold, wintery afternoon, according to Lubberstedt-Arjes.

Along with a variety of chocolately goodies, there will also be coffee and bottled water for patrons to enjoy. Prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. during the festival.

Peter Almstalden will also be entertaining attendees with musical stylings on the piano at the event.

The Festival of Chocolate is sponsored by the Friends of Kendall Young Library to help fund programs and activities like the Kendall Young Library Summer Reading Programs, annual Family Game Night and other special projects..

“The Festival of Chocolate funds programs and activities not covered by our normal operating budget,” Lubberstedt-Arjes said. “It helps support the library, which in turn, supports the community.”

Tickets for the Festival of Chocolate are available for $10 at the library checkout desk. Tickets will also be available for purchase the day of the event and at the door.

“Please donate to this great program,” said Lubberstedt-Arjes.

Individuals can find the entry form on Kendall Young Library website under the Friends of the Library tab or at the library.

“It’s something to do locally,” said Lubberstedt-Arjes. “It allows people to get out of the house, come and celebrate chocolate and the library.”
