Special service planned at Asbury

Blue Christmas worship to be held Sunday

A Webster City church is offering a unique service in hopes of offering comfort during the holiday season to those who have lost a loved one.

A Blue Christmas service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church on Sunday at 7 p.m.

The Rev. Jeff Flagg, pastor at Asbury, said the service gives individuals a chance to recognize those important people no longer with us.

“We all tend to miss those important people during the holiday season, those empty chairs at our tables,” Flagg said. The service will feature the lighting of candles to remember loved ones who have died.

“People can share the name of the loved one or keep it to themselves,” he said. “It’s a chance to remember and for some closure.”

The church has conducted the service for the past four or five years. The Blue Christmas service is open to all who wish to attend, regardless of church affiliation, according to Flagg.
