Night Hike set for Saturday

Families invited to attend for meal, hayrides, activities

A special night hike adventure is planned for Saturday, Oct. 21 at Briggs Woods Park.

Everything gets underway at 5 p.m. Participants are asked to park at the beach parking lot and a hayrack will pick them up and deliver families to the campground where children can trick or treat. The hayrack will then take them to Shelter 2 for activities. The hayrack will return participants to the parking lot after the hike.

A Best Costume award will be presented at 5:45 p.m. at Shelter No. 2. Following the costume contest, a light meal and pumpkin painting will begin at 6 p.m. There is no charge to attend. The meal and pumpkin painting is sponsored by Boman Funeral Home.

The Autumn Night Hike will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. “Super Heroes of Nature” is the theme of the hike. Participants will be able to discover what super hero-like traits local animals have as they roam around Iowa.

Participants will be divided into five groups for the hike, rotating from station to station..

After the hike, S’mores and cocoa will be served at Shelter 2 by Boy Scout Troop 17.

In order to plan for the meal and to schedule the groups, organizers are asking those wishing to participate to call 832-9570 and leave a voice meal for Naturalist John Laird or email hccblaird@wmtel.net.

Attendees are reminded dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
