New faces

Eleven new teachers welcomed to Webster City School District this year

There will be some new faces at Webster City Community Schools when students return to the classroom later this month. There are 11 new teachers in the district this year.

Chelsey Beseke, Webster City, will be teaching preschool at St. Paul Lutheran this fall. Originally from Humboldt, Beseke attended Iowa State University and received a degree in early childhood special education.

She previously student taught in Houston, TX, Fort Dodge, and at the Pilot Program at Riverside Early learning Center in Fort Dodge.

She is the daughter of Brandi and Richard Beseke and has two brothers, Joshua and Jacob.

Catheryn Dingman, Webster City, will be teaching 5th grade special education at Webster City Middle School. Originally from Des Moines, Dingman attended Grand View University. She has a prek-k endorsement and is currently working on her SPED 1 Endorsement.

She has been a substitute teacher in the Webster City Community District for the last 19 years.

She and her husband, Michael, have three daughters, Shanna Patton, Stacey Bauer and Katie Ziebell, a step-son, Jason, and five grandchildren.

Lisa Goedken, Gowrie, will be teaching 4th grade at Sunset Heights Elementary this fall. Originally from Illinois, Goedken attended the University of Northern Iowa and obtained a Bachelor of Science in business administration, elementary education degree and master’s in Educational Leadership: Principal-ship. Prior to this, Goedken taught 5th and 6th grade at Waterloo Christian School and 5th grade at St. Paul Lutheran School in Fort Dodge.

She and her husband, Phil, have seven children and five grandchildren.

Elise Kesten, Webster City, will be teaching 7th and 8th grade choir and 5-8th music at Webster City Middle School this fall. Originally from Hudson, Kesten attended Iowa State University where she obtained her bachelor of music education degree for K-12.

Prior to this, Kesten taught 5-8th grade choir and general music at Southeast Valley Middle School for two years.

She and her husband, Stephen, have a daughter, Bernadette.

Kristen McKee, Webster City, will be teaching at Webster City Middle School. McKee attended the University of Northern Iwa and obtained a degree in Spanish/Teaching English as a Second Language.

Prior to this, she taught elementary ELL at Columbus Community Schools, Spanish/T.A.G. at Northeast Hamilton, and Spanish at Webster City, Humboldt and Fort Dodge.

She and her husband, Don, have four daughters: Harleigh, Kyra, Bronwyn and Shaelyn.

Haley Murphy, Clarion, will be teaching 6th grade special education at Webster City Middle School. Originally from Fort Collins, CO, Murphy has degrees in elementary education, special education, and reading endorsements from Iowa State University.

Prior to this, Murphy student taught at Central Elementary in North Polk and Central Elementary in Nevada.

She has two brothers, Danny and Johnny Murphy.

Lisa Stansfield, Webster City, will be teaching 4th grade at Sunset Heights Elementary. She attended Mid America Nazarene University and Wichita State and obtained her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a masters degree in curriculum and instruction.

This will be Stansfield’s 18th year of teaching. She has taught grades 6-11 prior to this job.

She and her husband, Chuck, have three sons: Charlie, Josh and Jameson.

Valerie Stone, Webster City, will be teaching 8th grade math and science at Webster City Middle School. Originally from Knoxville, Stone attended the University of Northern Iowa where she received a bachelor of arts in elementary education and middle school generalist. She also has endorsements in 7-12 mathematics, K-6 mathematics, and K-6 social studies.

Prior to this, Stone was a substitute teacher in Waterloo, Webster City and taught ESL for Iowa Central Community College.

Her husband is a 6th grade math and science teacher at Webster City Middle School.

Kristin Topp, Hubbard, will be teaching 7th grade math and science at Webster City Middle School. Originally from Alden, Topp attended Buena Vista University and obtained degrees in elementary education, middle school math, science, social studies and reading.

This is Topp’s first year teaching. She has four years of para-educator experience.

She and her husband, Nathan, have three children: Emma, Owen, and Emmet.

Heather Vander Wilt, Story City, will be teaching 5th grade through 8th grade art at Webster City Middle School this fall.

Originally from Jefferson, Vander Wilt received a degree in art education from the University of Northern Iowa.

Prior to this she taught 7th and 8th grade art at Phoenix in Paradise Valley, SD.

Joe Verdeck, Webster City, will be teaching industrial technology, introduction to metals, PLTW-Intro to Engineering/ civil engineering, architecture, and introduction to industrial technology at Webster City High School.

Originally from Victor, Verdeck received his bachelor of arts in technical education from the University of Northern Iowa.

Prior to this, he taught for six years at HLV in Victor. He has also coached junior high football, high school boys basketball, wrestling, and high school boys and girls golf.

He and his wife, Ashley, have two sons, August and Abram.
