A local boy scout is perking up Kendall Young Park. Blake Seiser, a Webster City Boy Scout Troop 17 member, is sprucing up the restrooms on the park’s property. Seiser took this building on in hopes of earning the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout. The 15-year-old estimates the project will take two week total. Work began last week.

A number of improvements have been made to the park already by former Webster City Eagle Scout applicants. Seiser chose to continue this tradition of bettering the park so that more residents will visit the park.

“I chose to do the bathrooms because they weren’t looking too good,” said Seiser. “There were already some other projects out here at Kendall Young. I thought it would just be good to continue on with the scout projects out at Kendall Young because people need to start using Kendall Young more because it is underused.”

Since beginning the project, the bathroom’s roof has been replaced. New doors have also been installed. Seiser and his crew are in the process of power

washing and painting the interior and exterior of the building. New toilets will also be installed.

Seiser is being assisted by fellow troop members, parents and his grandfather in completing this project. His father, Jamie, and Troop Master Dave Bergeson are his project leads.

Seiser, 15, has been in the Boy Scouts for four years. He was previously in the Cub Scouts.

Seiser is also currently a Senior Patrol Member in the Scouts. This role focuses on leadership in the group.

“The scouts gets you involved in a lot of things,” said Seiser. “It opens your eyes a bit… you get to learn about things you otherwise wouldn’t.”

Seiser is the son of Jamie and Robin Seiser of Webster City. He will be a freshman at Webster City High School this fall.
