Youth injured in jump from trestle

Life Flight called to transport teen to Des Moines Hospital

The individual was Life Flighted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for injuries sustained after jumping off of a bridge trestle.

A teenage male was Life Flighted to a Des Moines hospital following an accident near Nokomis Park on Thursday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

“We got a call of a male laying on the sand bar, unresponsive, that resulted in the fire department being notified because of the water involved,” said Webster City Police Chief Shiloh Mork.

According to Mork, the individual was on the bridge trestle over the Boone River, jumped off and hit rocks below. Friends pulled the individual out of the water and onto a nearby sandbar.

The fire department deployed their rescue boat to take the individual to shore. After being transported to shore, the youth was transported via ambulance a short distance to the ball diamond at Nokomis Park where the air ambulance helicopter was waiting.

“The individual was assessed and it was determined a helicopter was needed,” said Mork. “The helicopter landed on scene and transported him.”

UnityPoint Life Flight of Fort Dodge transported the individual to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

No information was available on the teen’s condition or his identity.

The Webster City Police Department, Webster City Fire Department, Van Diest Medical Center, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Dodge Life Flight responded to the accident.
