WC board OKs resolution to study NEH reorganization

NEH?approved same measure Thursday

The Webster City school board unanimously voted to adopt a resolution jointly with the Northeast Hamilton Community School District to study the question of undergoing a reorganization to occur on or before July 1, 2019.

The same resolution was approved Thursday by the NEH school board.

In late May, the NEH the board learned that due to declining enrollment, the district would be facing a budget deficit by Fiscal Year 2020.

In order to proceed with the reorganization study, the NEH district also was required to have the same contracted employee salary schedule, professional development program and teacher evaluation process as Webster City.

The NEH board then approved an amendment to the 2017-2018 staff contract which results in a salary adjustment of approximately $4,500 in order to align with Webster City’s pay schedule.

The adjustment per staff member ranges between $200 – $700, Superintendent Mike Sherwood said at Thursday’s meeting.

If the proposal is accepted by the Iowa Department of Education, both districts will qualify for state funds, Sherwood added.

The study allows the two districts to sit down and talk, Sherwood said at the NEH meeting Thursday Topics, and goals will be determined by both districts and any plan must be approved by voters in both districts by 51 percent, said Sherwood.

In other business Monday, the Webster City board accepted four resignations from the teaching staff.

Submitting resignations were Dave Brighton, high school head boys golf coach; Ben Jass, industrial technology and head boys tennis coach; Lisa Mushrus, consumer and family sciences, and Cinnamon Kleeman, assistant high school vocal music instructor.

Contracts were offered to Chelsie Beseke for St. Paul’s Preschool; Joe Verdeck, Industrial Technology and Project Lead the Way; and Heather Vanderwildt, middle school art.
