Toering to step down

ACE Community Center looking for executive director

ACE Community Center is looking for an individual to lead their non-profit into the future. Current executive director Janet Toering will be stepping down from the position July 1. Toering has been the ACE Executive Director for the last five years.

Although Toering is resigning from her position as executive director, she will continue her work at ACE as Education and Immigration Director.

“Essentially, that has been my focus for awhile now because of the need here in North Central Iowa,” said Toering. “I’m just responding to the needs and the requests and the things that are important to build a community.”

Concerning immigration, ACE assists in renewing green cards, provides citizenship classes, and education resources. This includes English and Spanish classes for the diverse population that Hamilton County boasts.

“Immigration and education need a lot more attention,” she said. “That’s where my greatest specialty and my greatest love is.”

The executive director will be the liaison to the board of directors.

“We have an organizational chart that we’ve been looking at for months to make ACE more efficient,” said Toering. “The person we hire needs to be an independent contractor.”

The executive director will do the following:

• Take care of the business plan

• Lead the non-profit

• Find partners on a local, regional, state and national scale

• Help ACE be financially secure and sustainable for the future

• Have a passion for bringing multi-cultural programs into the future

Toering explained that one of the major responsibilities of the new executive director will be securing funding for ACE so that the non-profit can continue to provide services for the region.

“ACE is a non-profit organization that depends on 90 percent contributions and donations for it’s existence,” said Toering. “Obviously the executive director is going to be trying to help us find sustainable funding and move us to the future with partnerships from beyond just Hamilton County.”

According to Toering, there are an estimated 40 programs currently going on at ACE throughout the year. ESL courses, Spanish classes, summer garden activities for all ages and BINGO are just a small sampling of what ACE currently offers the community.

“We have programs galore happening and partnerships that create these programs,” said Toering. “ACE fits a niche that no other place can in North Central Iowa.”

“Anybody is welcome to apply,” Toering said.

Applications are available at ACE or by calling (515) 832-4153. Individuals interested in the position can submit a letter of application, resume, and references to: ACE Community Center/All Cultures Equal, 1440 East Second Street, Webster City, IA 50595 or email office@allculturesequal.org.

Applications are due by June 15.

ACE is also looking to fill vacancies on their board of directors starting in July.

“Our board members are like ambassadors for what we do and to draw people to ACE,” Toering said. “We’re an education and outreach place.”

Responsibilities of the board include spreading out ACE’s message to the community and getting involved in making ACE sustainable long-term.

The ACE Community Center/All Cultures Equal, Inc. Annual Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 19 at 6 p.m. at ACE. The public is welcome. Anyone interested in being a director on the ACE Board, a charter friend on “Friends of ACE”, or would like to see what has happened at ACE during the 2016-17 fiscal year is welcome to attend. Those interested in attending the meeting are encouraged to call ACE as there will be a light supper before the meeting.
