The Webster City school board approved a tentative agreement with the Webster City Education Association Monday evening. Career increments were increased by a quarter of a percent.

The publications (high school director) was increased by one percent from four to five percent. The instrumental music director position will receive a one percent increase in pay. The vocal music director position at the middle school will receive a one percent increase in pay.

The tentative graduation list was also approved by the board. According to Superintendent Mike Sherwood, 138 seniors are set to graduate on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m.

Graduation rates and drop-out rates for the 2015-2016 school year were discussed and reviewed by the board. The graduation rate at Webster City for the 2015-2016 school year was 95 percent. The current state average for the 2015-2016 school year was 91.3 percent. The drop-out rate at Webster City for the 2015-2016 school year was 1.8 percent. The state average for the 2015-2016 school year was 2.8 percent.

“Congratulations,” said Sherwood. “Those are great numbers.”

Bread and milk bids for the 2017-2018 school year were approved. The district will continue to use Pan of Gold for bread and Anderson Erickson for milk.

Student fees for the 2017-2018 school year were approved. Rates will stay the same. Activity tickets will cost $35. Textbook rental will cost $20. Band fees will continue to be $10.

The May, June and July meeting dates for the board were set. The board will meet on May 22, June 26 and July 10.

A contract with Diane Sweeney Consulting was approved.

“I’ve been working closely with our teacher leadership team and our administrators to work these contracts out,” said Dr. Adam Zellmer, director of teaching and learning. “We’ve had such good luck working as a regional group with Diane Sweeney Consulting this year that we wanted to extend that opportunity to our entire staff.”

The board approved a contract with Seidlitz Education Professional Development. A contract with Keith Daltano, Bullying and Discrimination Speaker, was approved. A Juvenile Court Services contract was also approved by the board.

The second reading of board policy concerning purchasing and bidding was approved.

As it is School Board Appreciation Week, Sherwood thanked the board for their time and efforts.

Resignations from Kayla Dagit, fourth grade, and Nikki Pals, special education, were approved.

Two contract recommendations were approved:

• Kristin McKee, ELL at Webster City Middle School

• Haley Murphy, special education at Webster City Middle School

Three voluntary transfer requests were approved.

• Lisa Lyons from Title One Reading to third grade at Sunset Heights

• Natalie Robbins from middle school art to high school art

• Heather Powers from full-time high school art to half-time art and half-time WCTV

The next school board meeting will be held on Monday, May 22 at 6 p.m. at the school administration office board room.
