Woman dies in one car accident

Driver strikes bridge pillar east of Webster City late Tuesday morning

Officials with the Iowa State Patrol said she lost control of the auto, entered the ditch and collided with a concrete bridge pillar. Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident, assisted by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office, Webster City Fire Department, Williams Fire Department, Van Diest Medical Center and the Iowa Department of Transportation maintenance and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

A Fort Dodge woman is dead following a one-vehicle accident late Tuesday morning near Webster City. The accident occurred at the 147 mile marker east bound on U.S. Highway 20.

The driver, who was identified as Michelle Salter, 54, of Fort Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol said the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance with the single fatality collision at 11:38 a.m. The first call to respond was received at 11:45 a.m.

According to Hamilton County Sheriff Doug Timmons, the driver left the roadway and struck the bridge.

Preliminary investigation by the ISP confirmed that a 1993 Chevy Lumina minivan was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 20 and the driver lost control of the vehicle, entered the right ditch and collided head on into a concrete bridge pillar.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Webster City Fire Department, Williams Fire and Rescue, Van Diest Medical Center Rescue and Iowa DOT Maintenance and DNR.

This collision is being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol.
