A new take on antiques
Tempel’s Timeless Treasures grand opening tomorrow in Kamrar
KAMRAR – Kamrar’s newest business, Tempel’s Timeless Treasures, will hold its grand opening on Saturday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 430 Hill Street, Kamrar.
The furniture, antique and collectibles shop is owned by Steve and Kay Tempel who have spent many years hunting flea markets and attending auctions throughout central Iowa.
“We’ve been doing flea markets for 13 years and realized that we were buying more than selling,” quipped Steve Tempel. “We decided to open our own shop and I’d retire.”
The couple’s garage still houses Kay’s vehicle but doubles as the warehouse for the store’s inventory. Kay will have a supporting role in the shop since she works at Windsor Manor in Webster City and is several years from retirement.
The store features antiques, furniture and collectibles. There are sideboard buffets including a Possum Belly cabinet, Victorian chairs, a variety of crockery, cast iron cookware, dishes, wall décor and Depression glass along with other assorted glassware.
The store will not be taking consignments at this time, explained Tempel.
“We need to clear out our warehouse first,” he said, although they will continue to purchase items.
While Kamrar isn’t the first name that comes to mind when shopping for antiques, the town has a big draw that brings in many of visitors.
“Pickles Pub,” said Kay. “Everybody knows Pickles!”
“It’s off the beaten path, but Kamrar offers a good place to eat and people can enjoy both,” said Tempel.
Tempel’s Timeless Treasures’ shop hours were established to coincide with the high traffic hours of Kamrar’s popular restaurant, said Tempel.
Hours are Friday – Sunday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Monday – Thursday by appointment or by chance.
The shop is also listed on Facebook and the Iowa Antique Network.
