Ready to set sail

“Murder on a Budget” opens Friday at WCCT

The Webster City Community Theatre is getting ready to set sail on another production this weekend.

“Murder on a Budget” opens Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Webster City Community Theatre.

Writer and director Sally Evans said the play centers around a high school class reunion that goes awry.

“It’s a class reunion and things have gone terribly wrong. There’s a murder,” said Evans. “In the first place, they were supposed to have a nice, luxurious cruise. Some of the funds disappeared so they had to take an offseason cruise on a crummy ship, so the food’s not good and the cabins are small and then someone gets murdered, so things are not going well.”

There are 13 cast members in the production and two narrators –Dale Arends, Al Yungclas, Dave Borer, Sylvia Vust, Jeff Pingel, Linda Thomas, Dean Evans, Cathy Olson, Paul Wagner, Sharon Helm, Larry Helm, LuAnn Jackson, Trese Arends, Pat Powers, and Stephanie Hill. Crew members helping with the production are Mark Dohms, Dan Ryherd, Loween and Doug Getter, Wil Groves, Sam Ose, and Alan and Karin Yungclas.

The show opens on Friday Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Additional showtimes include Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.

“I think it’s going to be a lot of fun for just about anybody, any age,” Evans said.

Tickets are $12. Tickets can be purchased at the Webster Theatre Community Box Office, online at http://www.wcctonline.org, or by calling the theatre at (515) 832-4456.
