Flag ceremony tonight

The American Legion Post 191 is encouraging Webster City residents to attend the a ceremony to retire worn flags tonight at 5 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the 700 block north alley behind the Senior Citizen’s Center.

The purpose of this ceremony is to properly dispose of all flags that have been tattered, ripped, and worn.

The American Legion collects worn flags from Flag Day to Flag Day each year.

Webster City American Legion Post 191 Commander Dale Caquelin said that there is still time to drop off worn out flags. Flags may be dropped off after 4 p.m. today at the Legion building or may be brought directly to the service.

“We’d like to have people come to it,” said Caquelin. “We want flags that aren’t serviceable to be disposed of in the proper manner. We don’t want flags in disrepair being flown.”

The ceremony will be held at a later date if there is rain or inclement weather.
