Southfield to host annual hog roast

The public is invited to attend the Annual Hog Roast at Southfield Wellness Community, located at 2416 Des Moines St., Webster City, on Sunday, May 5 at the independent and assisted living garages.

Serving is from 11 am to 1 pm and will consist of pork sandwiches, all the fixings, dessert and beverage. No reservations are required for the free event. A basket will be available to make optional, tax-deductible donations to Upper Des Moines Opportunity to help those in need. After the event last year, Southfield donated enough money to purchase ten truckloads of food for the local UDMO food pantry.

John Boughton, Administrator, encouraged everyone to stop by after church for the free meal and to visit the care center or the independent and assisted living apartments. Staff will be available to discuss the many living options at Southfield Wellness Community, which is owned and operated by ABCM Corporation based in Hampton, Iowa.

The Annual Hog Roast always precedes National Nursing Home Week, which is May 12-18. The Care Center theme for Nursing Home Week will be “Sorry! Life’s a Twister” and will include special decorations in each neighborhood. Food and activities will match the theme each day. Activities include Water Games Day, Family Board Game Night and a Life Size Clue Game.

Residents will listen and dance to a live band when they dress their best for the 8th annual resident prom scheduled for May 18. The public is invited to join the festivities any day May 12-18.
