Cactus Feeders, an emplpoyee-owned company, was the largest contributor to the Meals From the Heartland fundraiser and packaging event, sponsored by the Webster City FFA chapter Monday. The company’s pork division, Cactus Family Farms, has local ties and felt the event was a great representaiton of the company motto, “Feeding a Hungry World — Families, Friends and Neighbors.” Three employee owners presented the FFA chapter with a check for $2,000 Monday before donnin hairnets and gloves to help in the packaging process. Their contributions will provide 20,000 meals to be distributed in Iowa, the United State and the world. Pictured are Meals from the Heartland representative Georgie Filber, Cactus employee owners Dawn Chally, Julie Patterson and Shelly Bergeson presenting the check to FFA historian Jack Hirsch and FFA advisor Kurt Veldhuisen. More than 60,000 meals were packaged Monday through the local FFA chapter’s efforts.
