Results from Watermelon Day softball tourney posted
The 11th Annual Watermelon Day Softball Tournament took place July 12-15. 11 teams entered the tournament; 5 all male teams and 6 co-ed teams and in the end, it was Russ’ Barber Shop from Webster City winning both brackets.
This year with 5 co-ed teams, we had a round robin tournament and the top 2 teams advanced to Saturday night’s Championship. Russ’ Barber Shop went undefeated thru the round robin and earned the top seed. Their opponent in the Championship game was a very good young Pee Funnel Pub team. Russ’ Barber Shop won the Championship game 12-2.
The co-ed did a 6-team bracket. Russ’ Barber Shop won to become a 4-time co-ed champion. We had a very competitive tournament that saw the Balls ‘N’ Dolls team get to the Championship game.
Organizers said there was great weather, some good games, and a lot of fun was had by all teams even in defeat. They issued a thank you to all the captains for putting teams together and all the guys and gals that played. It’s a big commitment for the players to come and play Wednesday through Saturday.
