WCHS, WCMS to present holiday concerts Monday

The Webster City Schools are presenting two holiday concerts on Monday.

The 5th-8th grade bands’ concert is Monday at 6 p.m. in the WCMS Multi-Purpose Room.

The 5th grade band is playing: “Power Rock,” “First Christmas March,” and “iJingle,” in which audience members can download a smart phone app and play along.

The 6th grade band is playing: “Holiday Fanfare,” “Twas in the Moon of Wintertime,” “Drummer Dudes,” and “The Abominable Snowman Chase.”

The 7th/8th grade band is playing: “Flourishing Noels,” “Away in a Manger,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Christmas Africana.”

The middle school bands are directed by Lynn Corrow and Ashton Reams. The public is welcome. Admission is free.

The Webster City High School Choirs and Band’s concert is Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Prem Sahai Auditorium.

Branching out from jazz vocal, Chordination will open with the Kristen Bell song, “Text Me Merry Christmas.”

Bass Clef Ensemble will perform the canon “Christmas is Coming,” a blues arrangement of “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” and the novelty number “Santa Got a Tummy Tuck.”

Treble Clef Ensemble will sing the faux-classical piece, “Cold and Fugue Season,” the ballad, “There is No Rose,” and the gospel, “Go Where I Send Thee.”

Purple & Gold Singers will perform a choral arrangement of “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” from The Nutcracker, the spiritual, “I’m Gonna Sing ‘Til the Spirit Moves in My Heart,” “Christmastime is Here” from A Charlie Brown Christmas, and a setting of the traditional Hanukkah song, “Bidi Bom.”

Concert Band will play the holiday favorite “Sleigh Ride,” selections from Hollywood in “Christmas at the Movies,” and close with the rousing “And the Mountains Echoed: Gloria!”

The concert’s finale will include everyone in Combined Choirs and Band performing “God Bless Us Everyone,” from Disney’s A Christmas Carol.

The high school choirs are directed by Andrew Wotherspoon and Cinnamon Kleeman. The high school band is directed by Jon Jensen. Everyone is welcome. Admission is free.
