Kendall Young Library’s Noon Book Club has selected books for the November meetings.

The Noon Book Club will meet Nov. 24 from noon to 1 p.m. The group will read the book, “The Chaperone,”?by Laura Moriarty.

Copies of the books are available at the library’s checkout desk. Officials said new members are always welcome to attend.

n Blood Drive set for Thursday at St. Thomas

A?Webster City Community blood drive will be held Thursday from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church gym, 1000 Des Moines St., Webster City.

n Senior Thanksgiving dinner set for Nov. 25

The Webster City Recreation & Public Grounds Department invite all senior citizens to the Annual Senior Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner. The dinner takes place in the Fuller Hall Gym on Wednesday, Nov.25 at noon. Turkey, table service, and drinks will be provided. This year’s sponsor is Crestview Nursing & Rehabilitation in Webster City.

All guests are asked to bring a covered dish to share. Please call Fuller Hall at 832-9193 with your reservation and the dish you will bring. There is no fee for this potluck dinner.

n?Turkey Trot returns Thanksgiving Day

The Webster City Recreation Department will have the annual Webster City Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. This will be held on Nov. 26 at 9 a.m., at the Fuller Hall Recreation Center. This is a 5K run or walk with individual and team competition. Participants may sign up just before the race. The entry fee is two canned goods, to be donated to the Webster City Food Pantry. Refreshments will be offered to the individual and team competitors. For further information call Fuller Hall at 832-9193.

n Christmas Dance planned for Fuller Hall Dec. 5

Iowa Central Community College and the Fuller Hall Recreation Center are sponsoring a Christmas Dance featuring Tom Steinkoenig and his Sentimental Swing Band Saturday, December 5th at Fuller Hall, 625 Bank Street, Webster City, Iowa. Tom and his band have been playing for many years and bring a lofty zeal for swing dance with them. Sentimental Swing is a dance band playing music from the big band era including swing, foxtrots, waltzes and polkas and is open to all couples, singles, and even the younger dancers.

The dance starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. Dust off those dance shoes, bring your significant other, and join the Sentimental Swing Band for a night of lively and entertaining music. Tickets are sold at the door for $10 a person. For more information, call Sue Heistand at ICCC, (515) 574-1292.

n ‘The Quiet Man’ to be shown at Webster Theater today

In memory of the late Maureen O’Hara, the Academy Award winning movie “The Quiet Man” will be shown at the newly renovated Webster Theater in Webster City compliments of Southfield Wellness Community, owned and operated by ABCM Corporation. The free movie will be shown Wednesday at 2 p.m.?The movie lasts 2 hours and 10 minutes. The theater is handicapped accessible and there is a special area designed for wheel chair comfort. Snacks will be sold at the concession stand. The showing is open to all who would like attend.

This is the second film class hosted by Southfield Wellness Community. Last month, “To Kill a Mockingbird”?attracted over 100 viewers.

Faith United Methodist Church, 2020 Superior St., Webster City, will host a chili supper on Wednesday. Serving is from 5 to 7 p.m. and the menu includes chili, cinnamon roll, carrots, a bar and drink. A?free will donation will be accepted. Proceeds will go towards youth and mission activities.

n ‘Map of My Kingdom’ to be presented

There will be two performances in the coming week of the play “Map of My Kingdom,” a play about farmland transfer, written by Mary Swander and commissioned by the Practical Farmers of Iowa.

The one-act play features a lawyer/mediator specializing in land transition disputes who shares stories of how farmers and landowners have approached their farmland transfers. There will be a follow up presentation by the author, ag, legal and financial advisors.

One program will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Iowa Central Community College in in the Bioscience and Health Science Building, 330 Ave. M, Fort Dodge.

A?second program will be presented Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the public library in Callendar, 505 Thomas St. Admission is free.

n Soup dinner planned in Kamrar Sunday

KAMRAR?- The Kamrar Lions Soup Supper is scheduled for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kamrar Lions Club Building.

The menu will include vegetable beef soup, ham and bean soup, and chili, served with corn muffins and dessert.

The price is $7 for adults and $3 for children age 5 to 11. Those younger than 5 can eat for free.

Veterans Day events scheduled for Wednesday

American Legion Post 191 of Webster City will hold its traditional Veterans Day ceremony in the Webster City Middle School multipurpose room on Wednesday beginning at approximately 10:30 a.m. and finishing at 11 a.m. The guest speaker will be Legion Commander Dale Caquelin. The public is invited to attend with the Middle School students and staff.Throughout the day, a group of veterans will be visiting 8th grade class rooms to share their experiences of military service with the students.

Webster City High School will host a Veterans Day assembly at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Major Gavin Sandvig will be speaking to the student body at 1 p.m. followed by some musical numbers performed by the High School Choir and Band.

High school officials said all area veterans are invited to attend the program. For more information, contact the high school office, 832-9210.

American Legion Post 191 will cap off the day of events with its traditional Veterans Day soup super, with serving to begin at 5 p.m. at the post headquarters, 726 Second St. All veterans, families and the general public are invited to attend. A free will offering will be accepted.

In Jewell, The South Hamilton High School Senior Government students will be hold a Veterans Day Program at the middle/high school gym on Wednesday at 9 a.m. to honor the veterans in the community for their service to our country. Veterans are invited to come at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and rolls in the middle/high school library. Valet parking for veterans will be in the circle drive on the east side of the middle/high school. The public is encouraged to attend and park in the north parking lot of the middle/high school.

n Fair Association meeting is Nov. 12

The Hamilton County Fair Association will hold its annual meeting on Nov. 12 at the Ed Prince Building on the Hamilton County Fairgrounds.

The social time will begin at 6 p.m. and the meal will be served at 6:30 p.m.

n Friday the 13th dinner at Legion set

American Legion Post 191 will host a Friday the 13th dinner at the Legion Hall with serving to begin at 4:30 p.m.

The menu includes beefburgers, baked beans and macaroni salad, all for $6. The meal is open to everyone.

n ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ to open at South Hamilton HS

JEWELL?- The South Hamilton Fine Arts Department will present “Fiddler on the Roof”?Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the production are $5, available at the door. South Hamilton High School is located at 315 Division St., Jewell.
