Blairsburg Opera House dancers, listeners, and jammers are invited to at the Blairsburg Opera House Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. The coffee pot is always on– please bring a snack to share.

The Knights of Columbus of St. Thomas Aquinas will hold an omelet breakfast on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Parish Center Gym.

A freewill donation will be accepted. Donations will be used to help support seminarians, Veterans Honor Flights and various events and activities with the church and community.

Fall festival is Sunday in Williams

St. Mary Catholic Church of Williams will host the Fall Festival on Sunday from 4:40 to 7 p.m.

The meal will consist of chicken and homemade noodles, meat loaf mashed potatoes, home frozen corn, salad, St. Mary’s famous pickles, pie and beverage.

Cost is $10 for adults, $4 for children 4-12 and ages 3 and under are free.

The country store will have a variety of homemade crafts and baked goods.

NAWBO?event set for Oct. 29

The National Association of Women Business Owners Iowa Chapter (NAWBO Iowa) will be holding an event on Oct. 29 at The Bridge in Webster City, to celebrate rural Iowa women in business. October has been designated Iowa Women Business Owner’s month. The event will run from 5 9 pm and include beverages, a heavy hor d’oeuvres dinner, woman business showcase and a program. KY Library Book Sale planned

The annual fall Friends of the?Kendall Young Library Book Sale is planned for Oct. 29 through 31 at the library.

The sale will be open Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for members of Friends of the Library. Non-members may join at the door for $5.

The sale is open to the general public on Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Open house to be held for new school administration building

An open house will be held on Nov. 3, at the new Wester City Community School District Administration Building, located at 820 Des Moines St., from 3 to 6 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Author to present

talk at KY Library

Paul Juhl, a Webster City native and author, will present his new book, “MacKinlay Kantor’s Webster City, Iowa.”?The event will be held Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The book is full of rare photos and interesting stories about Kantor’s years growing up in Webster City. Juhl will share his research and the writing process, along with a slide show of images from the book.

Copies of the book will be on sale for $25. Library officials said the author will donate proceeds of the sale to Kendall Young Library.

Swiss steak meal

American Legion Post 191 will hold a Swiss steak dinner at the Legion Hall on Saturday. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. and will continue until the food is gone. Cost is $8.

Books selected

The Evening Book club at Kendall Young Library has been set for Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. The group will read “Dinner With The Smileys” by Sarah Smiley.

The Noon Book Club will meet Oct. 27 from noon to 1 p.m. This month, the group is reading “One Thousand White Women” by Jim Fergus.

Both books are available at the library’s check out desk.

Women’s Club

begins fall

schedule Monday

The Webster City Women’s Club is gearing up for their fall schedule with a program by Trudy Anderson on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Jane Young House.

The program, entitled, “The Creation of ‘Ta-Da,’ Recycling, Reuse and Repurpose”?will show the creations the Andersons have made and repurposed out of used materials. Music will introduce the festivities and refreshments will follow. Bring a repurposed, recycled or junque item to share.

The next meeting will be Nov. 9 and will feature the annual style show by Osweilers.
