n Friends of the Library Book Sale set for Oct. 29-31

The annual fall Friends of the?Kendall Young Library Book Sale is planned for Oct. 29 through 31 at the library.

The sale will be open Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for members of Friends of the Library. Non-members may join at the door for $5.

The sale is open to the general public on Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

n Fall Festival Vendor Fair, Craft Show planned

JEWELL?- The Jewell Fall Festival Vendor Fair/Craft Show on Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Hamilton Elementary School gym, 404 Blaine St., Jewell. Lunch will be provided by Cafe Agape.

n Rotary Turkey dinner is Sunday

The annual Webster City Rotary Club turkey dinner will be held Sunday at the Webster City High School cafeteria. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 10 and younger. The meal will be served between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Organizers say the dinner, prepared by Central Catering, promises a new faster drive-thru lane. Those attending can also dine in or carry out meals.

Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Meals on Wheels and many other community needs.

n NAWBO?event set for Oct. 29 at The Bridge

The National Association of Women Business Owners Iowa Chapter (NAWBO Iowa) will be holding an event on Oct. 29 at The Bridge in Webster City, to celebrate rural Iowa women in business. October has been designated Iowa Women Business Owner’s month. The event will run from 5 9 pm and include beverages, a heavy hor d’oeuvres dinner, woman business showcase and a program.

An open house will be held on Nov. 3, at the new Wester City Community School District Administration Building, located at 820 Des Moines St., from 3 to 6 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served.

n Author to present talk at Kendall Young Library

Paul Juhl, a Webster City native and author, will present his new book, “MacKinlay Kantor’s Webster City, Iowa.”?The event will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The book is full of rare photos and interesting stories about Kantor’s years growing up in Webster City. Juhl will share his research and the writing process, along with a slide show of images from the book.

Copies of the book will be on sale for $25. Library officials said the author will donate proceeds of the sale to Kendall Young Library.

n WCHS?Concert set for Thursday in Prem Sahal Auditorium

The Webster City High School Vocal Music Department is excited to present their Fall Vocal Concert on tonight at 7:30 pm at Prem Sahai Auditorium. Note:?7:30p.m. is the new, correct time. Admission is free.

Bass Clef Ensemble will perform “When I Was a Lad” by Gilbert & Sullivan, with soloists Jon Dixon, Dylan Bowen and Jackson Leman; the serenade “In Everything Her Loveliness,” accompanied by Danielle Strait; and “Rain Music” by Farnell.

Treble Clef Ensemble will sing “Windy Nights” by Gray, accompanied by Tyler Geopfert; the poetic ballad “Grow, Little Tree” by Ramsey; and the spiritual “Feel Good” by Tyson.

Purple & Gold Singers will be performing music from the All-State Chorus: The tribal “Baba Yetu” by Tin with soloists James Cherry, Colt Richardson, Bryan Ferrell and Daniel Sharar; the soaring ballad “I Will Lift Mine Eyes” by Runestad; “Make Our Garden Grow” from the operetta Candide by Bernstein; and the Latin “O Filii et Filiae” by Antognini.

The concert will also include the following special performances: Josie Asklund & Jenna Arbaugh will perform “Stepsister’s Lament” from the Fall Musical Cinderella, “America the Beautiful” from the students auditioning for the All-State Chorus, and a grand finale involving all combined choirs: “Filii et Filiae” by Leisring.

Students auditioning for All-State are Jenna Arbaugh, Josie Asklund, Erin Bahrenfuss, Maren Borer, Brian Borkowski, Bryan Ferrell, Haley Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Lauren Leman, Elise Manchester, McKenna Mitchell, Jake Nilles, Mariah Pride, and Daniel Sharar. The choirs are under the direction of Andrew Wotherspoon and Cinnamon Kleeman.

n Benefit set for WC?man injured in cycle accident

A benefit is planned for a Webster City man who was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in July.

Brad Caruth is recovering from the July 27 accident at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He sustained a diffuse axonal brain injury. According to benefit organizers, the plans are to move Caruth to On With Life, an Ankeny rehabilitation Center that focuses on traumatic brain injuries.

The benefit on Oct. 17, called Barhoppin’ 4 Brad, will be a free will donation run for motorcycles, cars or whatever participants wish to drive, according to organizers. The ride begins at Zylstra Harley-Davidson in Ames at noon. Stops include Crossroads Tavern in Kelley, The Flat Tire Lounge in Madrid, Rungos Bar in Stratford, Pickles Pub in Kamrar and the Grid Iron Grill and Sports Lounge in Webster City. Food and drinks will be available at each stop with a portion of that funding going toward the benefit, organizers said. The event will feature raffles, a 50/50 drawing and a small auction. All proceeds will go to help offset Caruth’s medical expenses.

n WC?Lions Club to host pancake breakfast Sunday

The Webster City Lions Club will hold its annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Sunday at the Webster City Middle School from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes, sausage, eggs and drink are on the menu.

Tickets are $6 each for adults, $3 for ages 5 to 10 and under age 5 will eat for free.

Those attending are invited to bring old used glasses and hearing aids for donation. WC2DC?students will be hosting a bake sale during the event.
