Steen declines Shrine Bowl invitation
WEBSTER CITY — Dylan Steen was invited to take part in one of Iowa’s most prestigious prep football games. Unfortunately, the Webster City senior ultimately decided to decline the invitation.
Steen was chosen to take part in the 2019 Shrine Bowl, which will be played on Saturday, July 20, at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. After taking several weeks mulling over the decision, Steen decided on Tuesday to withdraw.
Why? He chose his own team over a personal accolade.
An all-state performer on the football field and baseball diamond, Steen said he declined to play due to the possible conflict with the WCHS baseball season. The state baseball tournament is scheduled for the week following the Shrine Bowl.
Steen completed his prep football career with 22 interceptions, the third-most in state history.
