Piaszynski runs PR, places 35th at All-Star Meet
WEBSTER CITY — John Piaszynski’s final prep cross country race was also one of his best.
Competing in the Senior All-Star Meet on Saturday, the Webster City runner completed the 5-kilometer course at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny in a personal-best 17 minutes, 18.2 seconds to place 35th overall against a field that consisted of many of the state’s top runners.
There were 66 competitors in the boys’ field.
Piaszynski ran for the West team, which won the meet with 15 points. The East All-Stars compiled 44 points.
Missouri Valley senior Jordan Hustak claimed the individual gold medal in 16:07.7, nearly five seconds ahead of runner-up Jakob Van Der Werff (16:12.1) of MOC-Floyd Valley.
Class 1A state champion Emma Lucas of Bedford breezed to the girls’ title at the All-Star Meet. She finished in 17:59.3, 19 seconds clear of silver medalist Helen Gould (18:18.7) of West Des Moines Valley.
The West also earned the girls’ team title with 27 points. The East finished with 29.
Piaszynski served as the WCHS team leader throughout his senior campaign. He earned all-North Central Conference distinction.
