Phetxoumphone, Doolittle and Olson all ranked by The Predicament
WEBSTER CITY — The Predicament released its prep wrestling rankings on Monday and three Webster City grapplers will begin the season ranked in Class 2A at their respective weights.
Freshman 106-pounder Camron Phetxoumphone is No. 10 at the lightest weight class. Senior Drake Doolittle is No. 2 at 120, and fellow senior Caleb Olson is No. 6 at 195.
Phetxoumphone may be a rookie at the high school level, but he’s not a secret around the state. He put together a 3-2 record at 88 pounds and finished one win shy of All-American status at the U.S. Marine Corps Cadet and Junior Nationals over the summer in Fargo, N.D.
Doolittle, a three-time state medalist and a 2017 state runner-up, will open his final campaign ranked behind two-time state champion and Iowa State recruit Aden Reeves of Albia. Reeves won the only prep match between the two, 8-7, when they met in the state final at 113.
Olson is a two-time state qualifier and an eighth-place state medalist in 2017.
WCHS will be tested in its opener Thursday night when it treks to Clarion to face Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Iowa Falls-Alden in a North Central Conference double dual. Wrestling will get underway at 6 p.m.
