Hawks face a challenge against Grundy Center

JEWELL — Two football teams looking to improve to 2-0 will square off at Taylor Field this evening.

South Hamilton will host Grundy Center in a non-district contest slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

A strong second half enabled the Hawks to race by South Hardin, 26-15, in Week 1. But they will face a more formidable opponent tonight, as Grundy Center brings confidence to the turf following an impressive 34-22 victory over Belle Plaine a week ago.

South Hamilton will have to slow down Spartans quarterback Cale Hendricks, who accounted for 177 yards of total offense in his first start under center last Friday. Hendricks rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns, and passed for 69 more yards on eight completions.

Grundy Center pounded out 283 yards on the ground against Belle Plaine.

Sam Lewis chewed up 61 yards and rushed for two touchdowns for the Hawks against South Hardin. The senior also picked off a pass and took it to the house.

The Hawks will look to get speedy senior halfback DJ Klonglan on track after he was limited to just 33 yards a week ago.
