Rams feast at plate, SH baseball stumbles for sixth straight time
JEFFERSON — There are some nights that baseball teams would rather forget. Monday just happened to be one of those nights for South Hamilton.
Greene County touched Hawks’ right-handed pitcher Garrett Grady for 15 hits and scored in all five of its at bats en route to an 11-1, five-inning Heart of Iowa Conference romp on its home diamond.
“We did not play well and we did not hit well,” South Hamilton head coach Kyle Galetich said after his club produced just three hits and lost for the sixth straight outing. “I don’t have any reason for it.”
The Rams (3-5, 1-4 HOIC) received three-hit performances from Nick Breon and Wade Adcock, both of whom laced a double. Breon drove in four runs and Tom Gannon had two hits, one of them a double, and three RBIs. Tyler Teeples smacked three singles.
South Hamilton (3-7, 1-5 HOIC), meanwhile, was never able to make Rams’ pitcher Bryce Hoyle uncomfortable. Hoyle went the distance and struck out six.
“We had three hits and two of the guys that got hits got picked off first,” Galetich said.
Mateo Balderas, Cole Berg and Cade Balvanz accounted for the Hawks’ hits. Grady plated the team’s only run on a second-inning sacrifice fly.
South Hamilton was at BCLUW last night for a non-conference game against the Comets. It will return home this evening for a league tussle against Nevada at 7:30 p.m.
