WEBSTER CITY — Jess Howard has been in the game long enough to know that, some nights, you’ve just got to take your lumps.

And Algona was handing them out at a dizzying pace Friday night at Lynx Field.

The Bulldogs (15-3, 8-2 NCC) bashed 19 hits, including six doubles and a home run, in a 14-4 rout of Webster City (12-10, 4-6 NCC). They put up multiple runs in four innings, keyed by a five-run third that left the Lynx without an answer.

“They out hit us (Friday night),” Howard, the WCHS head coach, said after her club’s four-game winning streak was halted. “We’ve had our nights where we’ve done that, but they gave it to us.”

Emma Hjelle went 5 for 5 at the top of the Algona order, Hailey Schmidt was 3 for 4 out of the No. 3 hole and clean-up stick Kameryn Etherington roped a double and two-run dinger on her way to a three-hit and three-RBI performance.

Etherington deposited a Jenna Miller pitch over the left-center fence, part of a four-run fourth frame that extended Algona’s advantage to 12-3. It followed a RBI double to the same part of the park by Schmidt.

Nicole Smidt and Aliyah Buscher also roped doubles for the visitors. Smidt collected two RBIs.

WCHS pounded out eight hits, including a pair of doubles from eighth-grade clean-up hitter Kelly Stoakes. She also drove in one run.

Cynthia Whitehill added a pair of hits, one of them a double. Leah Kasch and Taylor McKinney both lashed RBI singles.

Haley Flaws and Tatum Goings also had one single each.
