WEBSTER CITY — Nathan Ferrell’s golf season didn’t end at the state tournament, but it was capped with an all-state accolade on Thursday.

The Webster City junior was named to the Class 3A all-state second team by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. It was the second all-state honor for Ferrell, who was a first-team member following his sophomore season in 2017.

The leader of a rebuilding Lynx program throughout the spring, Ferrell was consistently on the first page of the leaderboard in virtually ever dual and tournament in which WCHS competed. He was fourth at the North Central Conference tournament and later finished second at a 3A sectional tournament.

Ferrell’s bid to reach state for the third consecutive year ended at districts against a loaded field that included first-team all-state players Tommy Doyle of Gilbert and Ezra Meyer of Spencer. Doyle was the 2017 individual state champion.

Ferrell placed fourth at the 2017 state tournament, as he led WCHS to a runner-up finish in the 3A field. He was also a member of the Lynx 2016 state championship squad.

Ferrell will be the unquestioned leader of the WCHS program next spring and he’ll enter the campaign as one of the players statewide expected to contend for the state title.
