WEBSTER CITY — The initial 23 minutes of the first half were forgetful on the pitch at Lynx Field Monday evening.

But the final 17 minutes of the first half were all fireworks. They continued in the second half, too.

Celebrating its five seniors — Dylan Peck, Brett Olmstead, Alex Bobadilla, Tyler Bultena and Edgar Perez — the Webster City boys’ soccer team erupted for six goals over those final 17 minutes of the opening half and went on to throttle CAL/Hampton-Dumont, 10-0. The match ended via the mercy rule in the 71st minute.

The five seniors combined for seven of the goals and a pair of assists.

“It was a great game for our seniors to go out on,” WCHS head coach Craig Signorin said. “When we scored our first goal we started to get into a rhythm and play with some quality, (and) it was nice to see what

some of the inexperienced guys could do that haven’t seen much time at all.”

Peck made the most of his final outing in front of the home crowd, as he rifled in a career-high four goals and an assist. He vaulted into the top spot on the team leaderboard this season with eight goals.

Olmstead, Bultena, Perez, Jorge Alvavero Javier Mora and Jackson Moberly all added one goal each. Mora, Bobadilla, Isaac Bernard, Drake Doolittle and Michael Gilbert collected assists.

Peck opened the floodgate in the 24th minute with the first of his goals to break the scoreless tie. He scored his second two minutes later off a feed from Bernard on a breakaway.

Perez, Alvavero and Mora all notched goals within a four-minute span to push the Lynx lead to 5-0, and Olmstead finished off the six-goal spurt in the 38th courtesy of an assist from Bobadilla.

Moberly’s goal in the 64th minute made it 7-0. Peck scored again in the 65th, Bultena headed the ball into the net off a Peck throw-in in the 67th, and Peck finished it off with another breakaway.

WCHS (8-7) out shot the Cadets (2-5) 27-4, including 17-1 on frame. Lynx goalkeeper Carsen Johnson had a stress-free evening and made one save.

The Lynx will close out the regular season at Humboldt on Friday.
