Johnson and Vogelbacher notch goals; WCHS girls fall to Wildcats

HUMBOLDT — Three matches in a five-day span caught up to the Webster City girls’ soccer team here Friday evening.

Already dealing with a slew of injuries, the Lynx were put on the defensive early and never recovered in a 6-2 loss to Humboldt.

The Wildcats (6-4) scored just 45 seconds into the match and never trailed. They were up 4-2 at the half and then scored a pair of unanswered goals over the final 40 minutes.

“We have a lot of injured players,” WCHS head coach Paul Baedke said. “They are all playing hard and working as hard as they can.”

Haley Johnson and Sarah Vogelbacher scored the Lynx goals, and Vogelbacher also had an assist.

Johnson evened the match at 1 in the 12th minute. Vogelbacher, who scored four goals in a 5-2 win over Boone one night earlier, tacked on her 58th career goal in the 38th minute.

Humboldt had 14 shots on goal to nine for the Lynx (4-7).

WCHS will be at home to entertain Clear Lake this evening at 5:30 p.m.
