Down two starters, Lynx girls swept by Gaels on courts

Class 1A?singles and doubles regional tournament today

FORT DODGE — Down two of its top five players, the Webster City girls’ tennis team was overmatched in a 9-0 loss to St. Edmond here on Monday.

The meet opened with doubles and the Gaels were dominant. They carried that over to singles where they won each match by five or more games.

“This was one of those nights you just turn the page,” WCHS head coach Mark Fisher said. “We just never really showed up ready to compete. I need to do a better job of getting us ready to go.”

WCHS was without Izzy Hooker and Charlotte Judkins, who have been varsity mainstays in both singles and doubles throughout the season.

Emma Vansickel won three games in an 8-3 loss to the Gaels’ Haley Ledford in the No. 1 singles match. Hannah Parr took two games off St. Edmond’s Molly Lennon in the No. 5 spot.

Parr and McKenna Dinsdale were the Lynx most successful doubles team. They dropped an 8-4 decision to Brooklin Border and Jess Deal.

WCHS will head to Waterloo today for the Class 1A regional singles and doubles tournament. Play from Byrnes Park will get underway at 9 a.m.
