WEBSTER CITY — Other teams’ losses were South Hamilton’s gain in the final Associated Press Class 2A poll of the season.

After being stuck at No. 5 for several weeks, the unbeaten Hawks (21-0) jumped two spots to No. 3 and received their lone first-place vote of the season.

Treynor, one of three 2A teams with a spotless record, vaulted into the top spot following the second loss of the season for defending state champion Western Christian. The Wolfpack slipped to No. 2 for the first time all season.

Treynor and Western Christian both received four first-place votes.

Van Meter dropped from No. 2 to No. 4 after it suffered its only loss of the season to No. 10 Des Moines Christian last week. Aplington-Parkersburg sits at No. 5 and Cascade, last week’s third-ranked team, plummeted to No. 6 following its first setback. East Marshall, the third unbeaten in the class, is seventh. Sheldon and Sioux Center share the No. 8 ranking.

South Hamilton will begin its postseason trek on Thursday at home against either Ogden or Heart of Iowa Conference rival Roland-Story. The Bulldogs and Norsemen met last night in the District 14 quarterfinal round.

Eagle Grove, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Southeast Valley reside on the bottom half of the District 14 bracket. The district final is set for next Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Webster City.

A potential substate final between South Hamilton and East Marshall looms on Saturday, Feb. 24.

The other top-ranked team in the final AP poll include Des Moines Hoover (4A), Cedar Rapids Xavier and Mount Pleasant (3A), and North Linn (1A).
