No. 5, NCC champ Lions thump Lynx, 61-19

WCHS breaks even in league, finishes alone in fourth place

CLEAR LAKE — The wheels fell off in the second quarter here Tuesday night, as the Webster City girls’ basketball team was unable to keep up with fifth-ranked (Class 3A) Clear Lake in the final North Central Conference contest for both teams.

The Lions (19-2, 14-0 NCC) wrapped up a perfect league slate. They’ve won the last two NCC championships.

After staying close in the first quarter, WCHS (10-10, 7-7 NCC) was outscored 24-4 in the second quarter and 18-4 in the third.

The Lynx, who finished fourth in the final conference standings, made just eight shots from the field and turned the ball over 22 times. Clear Lake rained in nine 3-pointers alone.

Grace Hoversten and Cassidy Nerland had six points each in the loss. They also combined to corral nine rebounds.

Clear Lake limited Taylor McKinney to just one field goal — a first-half 3-pointer.

Sara Faber led the Lions with 20 points. Jordan Barragy added 15.

WCHS will be at home this evening to complete its regular season against South Hardin. The varsity tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
