No. 5 Hawks scorch nets, Rams by 23 points to improve to 19-0

SH shoots an absurd 70 percent from field; Peters leads four in double figures

JEFFERSON — OK, now South Hamilton is just getting ridiculous.

Already with the Heart of Iowa Conference championship in hand and still unbeaten, the fifth-ranked (Class 2A) Hawks put on an offensive show Tuesday night, as they blistered the nets in a 70-47 road rout of Greene County.

South Hamilton (19-0, 13-0 HOIC) shot 70 percent from the field, connecting on 28 of 40 shots. It led 39-20 at the half and pushed the margin to 24 points, 59-35, after three quarters.

“That was a fun game,” South Hamilton head coach Nathan Hill said. “We really had things rolling on both ends of the floor. When you shoot 70 percent for the game it’s hard to complain about too many things.”

Four players scored in double figures. Logan Peters led the way with 15 points, Cole Berg was perfect from the field and at the free throw line en route to 12 points, Logan Klemp buried all four of his first-quarter shots and finished with 11 points, and Marco Balderas chipped in 10 more.

“Logan Klemp came out on fire,” Hill said. “It’s good to see him starting to play with a lot more confidence. Logan Peters also had things going early … it might have been his best overall game of the season.”

Cade Balvanz finished one point shy of double digits. Just how much were the Hawks feeling it? The sophomore center buried the first and only 3-point attempt of his career in the second quarter.

Balderas played the distributor all night and finished with 12 assists. He now sits on 378 career dimes, just two shy of breaking the Hawks’ all-time record of 379, held since 1997 by Sam Koehnk.

Peters added four rebounds and two steals. Klemp also had four rebounds and Berg led the way on the glass with five boards.

Wade Adcock paced Greene County (10-7, 8-5 HOIC) with 13 points.
