WEBSTER CITY — South Hamilton drew the No. 4 seed for next week’s Class 2A boys’ state basketball tournament, it was announced yesterday morning.

The unbeaten Hawks (24-0) will face fifth-seeded Aplington-Parkersburg (23-1) in a state quarterfinal on Monday at 6:30 p.m. inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The winner will advance to Wednesday’s semifinal to play either No. 1 seed Treynor or No. 8 seed Wapello.

South Hamilton and Aplington-Parkersburg met in a preseason jamboree in November, a 16-minute exhibition the Hawks won, 33-29. But that outcome will mean next to nothing more than three months later.

A-P boasts the highest scoring offense in 2A at 75.5 points per game, while South Hamilton allows just 46.2 points per game.

A complete preview for the game will appear in Monday’s Daily Freeman-Journal.
