WCHS boys play without Tanner, come up short against Go-Hawks

WEBSTER CITY — Playing without starting point guard and floor general Jordan Tanner, the Webster City boys’ basketball team came up short in a non-conference game against Waverly-Shell Rock Saturday night.

The Go-Hawks (9-3) opened up a 14-6 lead after one quarter and hung on late to prevail, 45-40.

Tanner, a senior, was forced to watch due to the right knee injury he sustained against Manson-Northwest Webster last Tuesday night. WCHS head coach Marty McKinney was encouraged by what he saw from his team without the all-North Central Conference player.

“The overall effort is what we’ve been looking for all year,” he said. “It’s not the result we wanted and moral victories don’t count, but it’s definitely something we can build off of moving forward.”

Cameron Moen led WCHS (6-3) with 13 points and Henry Hoversten threw in 12. W-SR received 14 points from Mosai Newsom and 11 more from Luke Velky.
