WEBSTER CITY — Another unbeaten week did nothing to improve the South Hamilton boys’ basketball team’s standing in the Associated Press Class 2A Top 10.

The still flawless Hawks (18-0) remained at No. 5 in the latest poll, which was released on Monday. They accumulated 63 voting points from the statewide panel of media members and picked up some ground on No. 4 Treynor (68 points). Western Christian, Van Meter and Cascade remained entrenched in the Nos. 1-3 positions. East Marshall followed behind South Hamilton at No. 6.

All six of the top teams in 2A are still undefeated. By comparison, 3A and 4A have no unbeaten teams, while 1A has just three.

Barring any upsets, South Hamilton and East Marshall could meet in a substate for the second straight season next month.

Despite a loss to an out of state opponent, Iowa City West held on to the No. 1 spot in 4A by a wide margin over No. 2 Des Moines Hoover. The Trojans received seven of the 10 first-place votes.

Oskaloosa collected all of the top votes in 3A and holds a considerable lead over No. 2 Mount Pleasant.

In 1A, North Linn continued to sit at the top of the poll in front of 2017 state champion Grand View Christian. Both teams are undefeated, as is No. 3 Remsen St. Mary’s.

South Hamilton will play at Greene County tonight. Already the Heart of Iowa Conference champions, the Hawks will wrap up the league slate against North Polk on Friday.
