Berg, Peters lift No. 7 Hawks to 41-point blitzing over Eagles

Juniors score 17 points each, SH now a tidy 14-0 on season

JEWELL — No. 7-ranked (Class 2A) South Hamilton made better than 60 percent of its shots from the floor and cruised to its ninth Heart of Iowa Conference victory in as many outings on Coach Jim Marsh Court Tuesday night.

Cole Berg was a perfect 7 of 7 from the field on his way to 17 points, and Logan Peters matched that 17 on 7 of 10 shooting, as they led the Hawks to a 71-30 blowout over Saydel.

“We came out and did what we needed to,” South Hamilton head coach Nathan Hill said. “Cole Berg and Logan Peters both carried us on the offensive end … I thought they each did a nice job of finding the openings in the zone and attacking when the opportunity was there.”

South Hamilton (14-0, 9-0 HOIC) raced out to a 35-12 halftime lead and pushed the margin to 54-25 after three quarters. Hill was able to give his starters extended minutes off throughout the contest.

Conner Hill gave the Hawks a third double-digit scorer with 11. Cade Balvanz pitched in eight, Marco Balderas six and Quinton Grove five.

Berg led the team on the glass with five rebounds. Marco Balderas came up with two steals and two assists.

Zach Bobenhouse scored 11 points for Saydel (2-13, 0-9 HOIC), but made just 3 of 15 shot attempts. It was a far cry from the 28 points he scored on 7 of 10 field goals and 9-9 free throws in a 58-45 loss to the Hawks on Dec. 19.

South Hamilton will travel just down the road to Story City to take on Roland-Story Friday night.
