MCKINNEY BREAKS RECORD: Sophomore Taylor McKinney became Webster City’s all-time 3-pointer record holder and she led the Lynx to a 57-44 victory over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Friday in Clarion.

McKinney needed just one 3 to break Shauna Olson’s career mark of 66 and she got that early. By the time the first quarter was over she’d canned five triples on her way to seven and a game-high 27 points.

McKinney connected on six 3s in the opening half to help the Lynx (8-8, 6-5 NCC) build a 32-19 lead.

Haley Flaws added 10 points and Grace Hoversten finished with nine points and seven rebounds off the bench. Cassidy Nerland registered five points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Raven Kinnetz led CGD (6-11, 2-9 NCC) with 11 points.

BALANCED EFFORT GUIDES WCHS BOYS WIN: Five players scored in double figures for the Webster City boys’ basketball team Friday night, as it knocked off Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 68-59, in Clarion.

Jordan Tanner and Henry Hoversten both poured in 15 points for the Lynx (10-5, 7-3 NCC). Noah McKinney went off for 14, Cameron Moen had 11 and Dylan Steen finished with 10.

Hoversten also had 10 rebounds. Tanner put it all together with five rebounds, four steals and four assists. Tyler Bultena was also solid with three points, five boards and six assists.

Both teams hit eight 3-pointers. Moen and McKinney both had three for WCHS, while Rhett Darland connected on four and scored 12 points for CGD (7-9, 4-7 NCC).

Sam Urness led the Cowboys with 20 points.

WCHS took control for good with a 21-point second quarter.

HAWK BOYS WIN EASILY: The No. 5-ranked (Class 2A) South Hamilton boys’ basketball team rolled to another dominant win Saturday night in Eldora.

Three players scored in double figures and the unbeaten Hawks (18-0) led by 23 points after three quarters en route to a 63-48 victory over South Hardin (7-10).

Conner Hill and Logan Peters both poured in 14 points and Cole Berg connected for 12 points in the win. Marco Balderas chipped in eight points, eight rebounds and three assists.

South Hamilton bolted out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter and extended the cushion to 41-24 at the half.

Cade Speiker paced South Hardin with 13 points.

ANOTHER RALLY CARRIES SH GIRLS: A 23-11 fourth-quarter burst gave the South Hamilton girls’ basketball team its first lead and, eventually, the victory over South Hardin Saturday night in Eldora.

Trailing 30-23 entering the final period, The Hawks (7-12) finally went in front in the late stages and held off the Tigers (3-14), 46-41.

Marla Grubb scored nine of her game-high 17 points over the final eight minutes. Anna Moss, who knocked down five free throws in the fourth, added 12 points.

South Hamilton knocked down five 3-pointers in the contest.

Paige Harrell led South Hardin with 13 points.

WILLIS LEADS HAWKS: Colton Willis placed third at 220 pounds to lead the South Hamilton wrestling team at Saturday’s Lynn Moody Invite in Pocahontas.

Willis won three of four matches, all of them by fall.

South Hamilton finished seventh in the team standings with 70 points. GTRA claimed the team title with 259.

Lane Swenson (138) was the only other South Hamilton wrestler to win multiple matches. He decked two foes and placed fourth.

Jamie Hildreth (120), Nathan Wilson (160) and Nate Laube (170) all placed fourth as well.
