Myers receives Brett Greenwood Award at Iowa football banquet
WEBSTER CITY — Boone Myers, a 2013 Webster City High School graduate and a redshirt senior member of the Iowa football team, received the Brett Greenwood Award at the Hawkeyes’ annual awards banquet on Sunday in Iowa City.
Myers, an offensive lineman, shared the award with senior linebacker Bo Bower and senior special teams leader Kevin Ward.
The award is presented annually to a walk-on who embodies the values and behaviors of Greenwood, a former walk-on himself who became a starting defensive back.
Myers joined the program as a preferred walk-on in 2013. After taking his redshirt season he quickly vaulted up the depth chart and became a starter at left tackle as a sophomore.
During the 2015 season, Myers protected the blind side of quarterback CJ Beathard, as Iowa won its first 12 games and advanced to the Big Ten championship game where it lost to Michigan State in the final seconds, 16-13. The Hawkeyes went on to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1991 where they fell to Stanford, 45-16.
Myers started at both left guard and left tackle as a junior and helped Iowa put up an 8-5 recor.
Myers missed the majority of this season due to an ankle injury that eventually required surgery.
