Flaws headed to Grand View to run track
WEBSTER CITY — The number of Flaws girls on the Grand View University women’s track and field team will soon double.
Webster City senior high jumper and sprinter Haley Flaws signed her letter of intent to join the Vikings last Thursday. She’ll join older sister Allie, a former Lynx sprint standout, who is a current sophomore at Grand View.
A four-sport athlete, Haley Flaws has found the most success in track and field where she’s qualified for the state meet in five events.
“She’s an outstanding kid who works extremely hard and she’s getting what she deserves,” WCHS girls’ head track coach Clint Howard said. “The great part about high school is she’s been out for four sports, which is what all coaches want. But it will be exciting to see what she can do when she concentrates on just one sport. She’ll be a great asset for (Grand View).”
Haley Flaws has twice competed in the Class 3A high jump competition inside Drake Stadium at the state meet. She finished 19th as a sophomore in 2016 and then vaulted all the way up to ninth, just one spot out of the medals, in 2017.
Flaws has a pair of North Central Conference titles in the high jump.
She also advanced to state in the 100-meter dash this past season where she placed 23rd in the 3A field.
As a sophomore in 2016, she joined her older sister on the Lynx state-qualifying 4×100 and 4×200 relays where they placed 12th and 16th, respectively.
And the best may be yet to come in 2018 during her senior season.
