Football Briefs: Webster City Lynx
LYNX JV WINS: Garrett Whitmore went on two long touchdown excursions and the Webster City junior varsity football team knocked off Iowa Falls-Alden, 24-14, on Monday.
Whitmore ripped off scoring runs of 95 and 31 yards, and Trey Mathis added a pair of two-point runs in the first half to give the Lynx a 16-6 lead the break.
Gabe Humphrey tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Brady Auderer in the third quarter.
Whitmore rushed for 155 yards in the victory. Parker Rossing (45 yards) and Mathis (40 yards) combined for 85 more, and Humphrey completed two passes, both to Auderer, for 45 yards.
WCHS coach Chad Hisler said the offense was aided by solid play up front from linemen Nick Hackbarth, Will Tasler, Brandon Hernandez, Hunter Collicott, Casey Kolbeck, Michael Gilbert and Alex Ford.
Defensively, Humphrey and Braden Berg had interceptions, and Carson Johnson collected two sacks.
7th GRADE STILL UNBEATEN: The Webster City seventh-grade football team put together another dominant effort in a 35-0 rout of Hampton-Dumont recently to remain unbeaten.
CJ Hisler galloped for a pair of touchdowns on runs of 25 and 6 yards. Austin Mason also took it across the goal line from the 1.
Ty McKinney connected with Connor Hansen on a 60-yard touchdown pass. Later in the game, it was McKinney who was on the receiving end of a 50-yard scoring pass from Jordan Dankham.
Defensively, Dankham, Andrey Somsack and Dawson Seiser all came up with fumble recoveries.
